Parliamentary committees endorse only two of nominated ministers in Croitoru Cabinet

Just two of the 14 ministers nominated by designated Premier Lucian Croitoru were endorsed by the expert parliamentary committees following the hearings on Wednesday and Thursday.

In the first hearings day, diplomat Bogdan Aurescu, who was nominated for the position of Foreign Minister in Croitoru Cabinet, was endorsed by the foreign policy commissions of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. He was approved of by a vote of 32 to 10 and one abstention.
Romania’s representative to the litigation won in Hague versus Ukraine, on the demarcation of the Black Sea continental shelf, also enjoyed the explicitly voiced appreciation of the main opposition party MPs, the Social Democratic Party.

The second nominated and approved minister is democrat liberal Vasile Blaga for the position of Minister of Regional Development and Tourism, voted 34 to 28 in the reunited committees of industry and public administration.
Apart of the democrat liberals vote, Blaga also benefited of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania support, part of the parliamentary majority that voiced its opposition towards the designation of Lucian Croitoru to form a new Government.

The other 12 Croitoru nominated ministers failed to be endorsed by the expert parliamentary committees.
Mihai Seitan, nominated to take over the Labor portfolio in the new Croitoru Cabinet, received 28 votes against, 18 in favor and one abstention and the caretaker Minister for Public Finance Gheorghe Pogea, proposed to keep on his portfolio, was voted 23 against and 15 in favor.

The caretaker Minister of Justice Catalin Predoiu failed to be endorsed to keep on this job in the next government, with 36 votes against, 26 in favor and three abstentions. The candidate for the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development job Adrian Radulescu received 43 votes against, 26 in favor and one abstention.

Democrat liberal Radu Berceanu, nominated for the portfolio of Transport and Communications was rejected through a nominal procedure, with 42 votes against and 33 in favor. Also the caretaker Minister of Economy, prime vice-president of PD-L Adrian Videanu, failed to be endorsed, with 37 votes against and 29 votes in favor and Daniel Funeriu, named for the Education portfolio, did not succeed to gather more than 15 votes in favor, with 21 against and two abstentions.

The caretaker Minister of Defence Mihai Stanisoara failed to be endorsed by the committees for defence, public order and national security of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, with 20 votes against and 13 in favor.
Sulfina Barbu, nominated for the Ministry of Environment, was thumbed down with 21 votes against and 15 in favor.

Nor the caretaker Minister of Culture Theodor Paleologu succeeded to get the parliamentary endorsement, for keeping on the mandate, with 23 votes against and 20 in favor in the reunited culture committees.
As well, Emeric Saghi, the candidate for Administration and Interior portfolio, was thumbed down by the expert committees, with 40 votes against and 26 in favor.
Cristian Vladescu was the last candidate in the hearings, nominated for Health portfolio, failing to be endorsed with 15 votes against and 11 in favor.

The parliamentary committees have a consultative vote, the final decision, of endorsing, or not, Lucian Croitoru Cabinet, going to be taken by the reunited plenary of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies on November 4.
The designated Premier chances to be endorsed by the reunited Parliament’s plenary are reduced under conditions in which PSD, PNL, UDMR and national minorities MPS, accounting for 65 percent of the votes, expressed their preference for the Prime Minister job in the person of Sibiu Mayor Klaus Johannis.

In his turn, President Traian Basescu hinted on Wednesday, in an interview given to the public TV channel, that he contemplates a second designation for the Premier office, prior to the presidential elections, in case Croitoru Government fails to be backed up by the Parliament. On the other hand, Traian Basescu said he is still convinced that Croitoru Government may garner more than 50 percent of the Legislative’s votes.
