The unit has a daily gas processing capacity of 3.8 million cubic meters, twice as much as the old installation. According to Petrom, the new Midia plant has an efficiency of 99 percent as for the recovering of heavy compounds from the natural gas, resulting 340 tons of condensed per day. By comparison, the old plant succeeded to recover 100 tons per day. The unit can take over the entire offshore gas production of Petrom.
“Gas processing unit fulfills all EU environment norms, especially those referring to emissions”, emphasized Johann Pleininger, member of Petrom Board, responsible for exploration and production. Midia plant has own electricity co-generation station, with 10 Megawatts capacity.
The unit was designed and built based on an acquisition, drafting and construction contract concluded with German Linde Group, with support of subcontractors from Romania, Germany, Ukraine and Hungary. Petrom produces associated and vent-free gas on its Black Sea offshore platforms, which needs processing in order to be injected into the National Transport System.
Midia gas processing plant processes collected gas in order to meet sale specifications, by removing the heavy compounds as propane, butane and pentane. Remained light compounds methane and ethane are subsequently pumped into the National Transport System for further distribution to the clients. Heavy gas compounds are transported into a liquid form by railway to Petrom refineries, where they are added in the production process.
