On the other hand, Traian Basescu stated he is convinced that Croitoru Government has more than 50 percent chance to get the Legislative’s favorable vote.
He added that the hypothesis of a designation after the presidential elections could have been taken into account, if things proceeded “normally” in relation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
“But things with the Fund do not follow a normal path. Namely we have problems with the arrears. The pensions bill is in suspension, the fiscal responsibility bill, we pledged to adopt by this year-end, there is nobody to promote it and it is a pledge taken through the stand-by agreement with IMF. The bill on the dismantlement of 100 and over governmental agencies is blocked at the Constitutional Court, therefore there is the risk we cannot fall within the established budget deficit”, he said.
Basescu added that due to these reasons a responsible and fully empowered government is needed. As well, he reminded that Romania has to re-negotiate agreement conditions with the IMF.
If Croitoru Government fails to be endorsed “I will designate a new Premier, and the priority goal of this PM will be to manage well the economic crisis situation”, stated Basescu, adding that, if necessary, he will do it “very soon”.
He also stressed that. as the result of IMF assessment delay. the transfer of the installments was postponed by one month, meaning that the Ministry of Finance would be forced to lend another billion of euros from the market.
