The leader of the Social Democratic Party (P SD) and also the party’s nominee for president in the upcoming elections on November 22 Mircea Geoana on Saturday told a press conference, held at the PSD Vrancea (central-east) headquarters, that the future state budget will have to observe a budget deficit of 5.9 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

According to him, the main axes of financing for the 2010 state budget should be represented by the agriculture and the education, with the latter sector to get 6 percent of the GDP.
While referring to the agriculture, the Social Democratic leader said that Romania has now a good chance to become the 4th European country in terms of wine production.

‘We don’t have to measure the production in hectolitres anymore, but based on the price of the bottles of wine,’ Geoana said, also assuring the farmers that they will benefit of agricultural subsidies next year. He also added that the 2010 budget will also operate the remaining debts of the state towards the private companies. ‘Next year’s budget will have to reflect the will of the parliament majority (of 65 percent),’ Geoana said.
