During his speech, Traian Basescu underlined that the national Romanian currency leu was prevented from reaching an exchange rate of 4.5 lei, or even of 5 lei as it was at some point estimated.
‘During the whole year we fought and we managed to obtain an equilibrium in the euro-leu exchange rate and in the state deficit. And I believe it was the Romanian anti-crisis programmes that helps us obtain this equilibrium,’ the President said, also drawing attention Romania remains a country depending on the big European economies and that the relaunch of the Romanian economy depends on the manner in which Germany, France, UK, Spain and Italy will succeed in relaunching their own economies.
