‘I was alerted by the statement of State Secretary at Health Ministry Adrian Streinu Cercel, who was seeing that Romania has been experiencing an apocalyptic scenario and spoke of the requirement of importing the vaccine against the swine flue. Romania will import no vaccine.
There are one million doses at the Cantacuzino, at the moment, and the Institute can make one more million, within ten days. Romania is one of the eight countries that can make the vaccine. The sole problem is that of the authorization of the vaccine’s immunization.
The tests on animals and people have been completed and the authorization procedure will be finished in 7 – 10 days, depending on the time span the doses are be provided to the population. The vaccination capability will be slower than that of manufacturing the vaccine,’ said Traian Basescu. He invited both the population and particularly the healthcare specialists and the media representatives to calmness and responsibility.
‘It would have been good if we had had the vaccine (doses), today, but this is the way the production process goes, but I assure you it will be no problem,’ Romania’s head said.
President Basescu organized a news conference on the referendum due on Nov 22, with the local media, at the Cotroceni Palace, on Monday. He stressed that although the referendum was the single topic of the briefing, he saw himself bound to make clarifications on the new flu, as a result of the statements by Sreinu Cercel.
