European Commission upwardly adjusts estimates of Romania’s 2010 economic growth

4 noiembrie 2009

Information in English

The European Commission has upwardly adjusted its estimates of Romania’s economic growth in 2010, to a 0.5 percent growth in 2010 and 2.6 percent in 2011, according to the European Commissions’ autumn forecasts. In May 2009, the European Commission was expecting Romania to record zero growth in 2010.

The European Commission is now forecasting a modest economic growth in the European Union and the Euro-zone of 0.7 percent in 2010. In May, the Commission was expecting a 0.1 percent economic contraction for 2010. The recovery that exceeded expectations in the second half of 2009 is now expected to be followed by a slower pace of growth in early 2010. The Tuesday’s forecasts do not modify the forecast that the Euro-zone economy will decline 4 percent this year and the economy of the European Union overall will be down 4.1 percent.
