“Currently two organizations in Romania are EMAS registered. The first is Oradea Metropolitan Zone (West), followed by Sibiu Evangelical Parish (center), with two EMAS registrations. At the European level there are 6,000 organizations with EMAS certification, the highest number being in Austria, Germany and Italy”, said Toma.
According to the Counsellor, there are two authorized entities in charge with EMAS certification, respectively Stefania Sbircea (an individual) and SRAC CERT Bucharest (a corporate entity).
As for the green label, two hotel units are certified as such (Saturn Hotel in the same name spa on the Black Seaside and Crowne Plaza in Bucharest), as well as IT&C company Maguay for its developed portable computers, according to the current statistics, quoted by Daniela Toma. All organizations wishing to improve their environment protection performance can adhere to the EMAS system of ecological certification.
Romania adhered to the European Parliament (EP) Rule and of the Council (EC) No. 761/2001 of March 19, 2001 stipulating the voluntary participation of the organizations in the eco¬management and audit community scheme (EMAS), also called EMAS Rules.
EMAS is the environment management system (SMM) used by the EP in conformity with ISO14001 :2004 and EC Rule standards. In 2007 the first foreign audit was carried out based on which EP got ISO14001.2004 certification, now registered within EMAS in Brussels, Strasbourg and Luxembourg.
