Romania is one of the countries that were most affected by the global economic crisis, Eirk Berglof, chief economist with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and who is also one of the main authors of the EBRD’s latest Transition Report on Wednesday presented in Bucharest, on the occasion of the opening of the 20th edition of the Central European Initiative.
‘Romania is one of the countries having been most affected by the economic downturn,’ Erik Berglof appreciated, with quite increased unemployment figures. The credit crisis was also severely in Romania, having eventually led to the blocking of the activity of many SMEs’. The EBRD chief economist forecast an economic growth of 1-2 percent in Romania and in the region in 2010.
