Chief of the Social Democratic Party (P SD) Mircea Geoana, a contender in the November 22 presidential election, told an election rally in the western city of Hunedoara that if he is elected President he will install a Government before Christmas.

‘As President, if I win the election, I will install a new Government in Romania before Christmas is here,’ said Geoana. He added that the debate in Parliament of the 2010 Budget blueprint is an occasion to sketch up a first Government programme with anti-crisis and investment measures and multi-annual budgeting. Geoana said that private companies should be assisted as they have to recoup 2 billion euros from the Government in unpaid bills and VAT yet to be refunded.

‘These three weeks until the presidential election should not be wasted in barren political struggles. Playing the Boc Cabinet 2, 3 or 5 does not fool anyone any more. It is clear that the only chance for redemption, for serious fight against crisis, for jobs, for drawing investment and for all that represents Romania’s chance of returning to the family of civilized countries as soon as possible is to elect a new President,’ said Geoana.
