The leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Mircea Geoana on Thursday said while paying a visit to the northwestern Medias city that he pleaded for the variant proposed by the Central Bank (BNR) governor Mugur Isarescu who said crisis could be solved by cutting significantly in the budget expenditures.

‘Mr. Isarescu presented three variants. We have three choices: operating significant cuts in the budget expenditures, increasing the taxes, or adjusting the national currency. The second and the third variants are unacceptable for Romania’, Geoana said.

The Social Democratic candidate for president also underlined that during such times of crisis the taxes should on the contrary be maintained at the same levels and he also said he was categorically against generating more unemployment.

‘We will make sure that the law on fiscal responsibility is approved by the Parliament very quickly, so that to block the huge budget expenditures’, Mircea Geoana said. Geoana is going to participate on Thursday evening in a meeting with the businessmen from Sibiu, at the Hilton Hotel in the city.
