The Liberal candidate categorically rejected the idea that the IMF money was Romania’s only chance to jolt out of the crisis, considering that if Romania is now indebted, “this is because of poor governance or absence thereof.’
“We, the Liberals, spoke up earlier this year when talks about the IMF began. When we said it can be done otherwise, we came under the fire of a thousand philosophers, some from Mr Basescu’s court, some from the society. Now we see where we got and it’s not because the IMF, but of the poor governance or absence of governance.
Us, the Liberal government, the Tariceanu government, put an end to an agreement with the IMF that was lasting for years and from the moment we terminated the agreement until we left the rule, Romania witnessed the most thriving economic period in its history,” added Antonescu.
Crin Antonescu considers that the Romanians will go through many sacrifices in order to repay Romania’s record-high debt to the IMF, accusing the Boc government of incapacity and lack of concern for getting the country out of crisis.
