Governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) Mugur Isare scu and chief of the National Liberal Party (PNL), the party’s candidate in the presidential election, and independent candidate Sorin Oprescu are commanding the trust of 29 percent of Romanians, while Sibiu Mayor Johannis Klaus is trusted by 23 percent of Romanians.
Presidential candidate of the Christian Democratic – New Generation party (PNG-CD) George ‘Gigi’ Becali enjoys the trust of 20 percent of Romanians; caretaker Prime Minister Emil Boc and presidential candidate of the Greater Romania Party (PRM) Corneliu Vadim Tudor is trusted by 19 percent of Romanians, former President Ion Iliescu by 18 percent, and candidate of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor by 7 percent.
In terms of public notoriety, Ion Iliescu and former Prime Minister Adrian Nastase top the rankings of politicians, with 99 percent of Romanians knowing them, followed by Traian Basescu, Corneliu Vadim Tudor, former Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, Emil Boc and Mircea Geoana, all of whom are known by 98 percent of Romanians.
As regards the turnout in the November 22 first round of the presidential election, 74 percent of the respondents say they are interested in the election, 24 percent say they are not interested, and the remaining say they do not know or did not answer. The poll was conducted on a sample of 1,348 people, November 7-11. It carries an error margin of 2.7 percent. It was commissioned by CCSB.
