Traian Basescu on Friday afternoon received at the Cotroceni presidential palace Republic of Moldova Prime Minister Vladimir Filat, whom he thanked for the prompt measures taken by the Chisinau government to reverse the decision to expel the Romanian Ambassador, resume visa issues to Romanians and approve the opening of the two Romanian consulates in Cahul and Balti.

“The opening of the necessary voting stations so that the Moldovan citizens with voting right be able to participate in the President’s election add to these actions,’ the Moldovan Premier completed. Basescu assured Filat of his openness towards the Republic of Moldova and the Chisinau government.

“We hope a President takes over in Moldova for a regular term, whoever this is. We are highly pleased with the stance acting President Ghimpu has on Romania and I never allowed myself any statement that could generate the least suspicion about our intentions regarding the relationship with the Republic of Moldova. I assure you that now, towards the end of my tenure, an atmosphere sets in I would have wanted to last all through my term in relation with the Republic of Moldova,” said Traian Basescu.
