Bogdan Aurescu will have on Monday and Tuesday in Washington several meetings with Anthony Blinken, deputy advisor of the US president and advisor for national security of the US vicepresident, Pamela Quanrud, deputy of the assistant for Northern Europe, Central Europe and the Baltic States of the secretary of state, Nancy McEldowney, main deputy of the assistant for the European Affairs of the secretary of state, Dan Russel, the deputy of the assistant for the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Belarussia of the secretary of state and with other American officials within the Council for the National Security and the Pentagon.
Likewise, on this occasion talks will be continued on the topic of admitting Romania in the Visa Waiver Programme. The tour of the Romanian secretary of state will further on with the meetings he will have in Ottawa, in November 18 and 19, which are aimed to resume and restart the bilateral political dialogue in the context of the anniversary this year of 90 years of diplomatic relationships.
The agenda includes issues of the bilateral relationship regarding the cancellation of the visas for the Romanian citizens traveling to Canada, the more efficient exploitation of the potential of the bilateral economic tie through the increase of the commercial exchanges and investments, the extension of the bilateral legal framework.
MAE also says that the presence of Aurescu in Ottawa will also pursue the consolidation of the cooperation at multilateral level between the two countries, by approaching some topics of interest to Romania and Canada from the global and regional perspective: global security, the NATO New Strategic Concept, the presence in the operations theaters, the stability and prosperity of the Eastern neighbourhood of the EU and the NATO and the Western Balkans. Likewise, the agenda of the visit includes a conference where the Romanian official will take the floor at the School of International Relationships of the Carleton University on the importance of the energy security, a reputed international event dedicated to discussing the challenges, the hazards and the opportunities of the current world. The event is staged by the German Marshall Fund, in cooperation with the Canadian government and it is a first of the kind on the North-American land.
About 300 participants from the political, governmental, economic, academic, business and media milieus in an inter-active dialogue on security matters are expected to attend the forum. The release also says that Bogdan Aurescu will have a verbal intervention on the NATO New Strategic Concept, where he will present, mainly, the targets and priorities aimed at by Romania.
