The Prosecutor’s Office with the High Court of Cassation and Justice expressed astonishment that former prosecutor Ciprian Nastasiu uses in a book information extracted from some criminal files, announcing it is going to launch an inquiry in this case.

“The Prosecutor’s Office with the High Court of Cassation and Justice expressed its surprise that information related to some criminally investigated facts, or obtained following talks recorded with a person under general investigation, were not used in the criminal files instrumented by the book’s author during the period when he held the prosecutor’s office, but have been published a lot of years afterwards and wishes to delimit itself of the attempt to draw the Public Ministry into the political debate”, the General Prosecutors’ office informs in a release.

According to the source, the Prosecutors Office with the High Court of Cassation and Justice are examining the information included in the mentioned book, in order to establish if there are sufficient concrete elements to justify the ex-officio apprehension and the investigation, in order to establish if the described facts are real and correspond to the elements of an offense, as well as to establish to what extent the criminal pursuit bodies were aware of these facts and, by failing to investigate the instrumented file, are guilty of favoring the offender.

As well, the General Prosecutor’s Office announces it examines the information contained by Nastasiu’s book referring to the ongoing criminal files in order to establish if they come from classified documents and if their disclosure is of the nature to endanger the state’s safety or to influence the course of some inquiries.

The Public Ministry pointed out that the decision of revocation of prosecutor Nastasiu Ciprian from the Investigation Division of Organized Criminality and Terrorism was determined by him being sanctioned by the Upper Council of Magistracy, which remained definitive through the decision of the High Court of Cassation and Justice and had no links to the files allocated to the magistrate for solving.

The Chief Prosecutor’s Office also says that during his office, attorney-at-law Nastasiu failed to forward a notice on the eventual infringement of his independence by the coordinating attorneys at law or by some other authority.

The former DIICOT prosecutor Ciprian Nastasiu presented on Monday, in Bucharest, in a press conference, his book “Plundering Romania”, written together with Romanian-American writer Victor Gaetan, which details President Traian Basescu’s involvement into Omar Hayssam affair.

Ciprian Nastasiu allegedly said he benefited of former Chief prosecutor Ilie Botos support in his inqury of Omar Hayssam, but Laura Codruta Kovesi, who replaced Botos, would have made pressures upon him.
Among these pressure moves he quotes the fact that Laura Kovesi stopped him going to Syria to investigate Omar Hayssam. Nastasiu also said that Traian Basescu “is an authoritarian president and that he gives direct orders to the Chief prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi”.
