The Romanian Office for Organized Crime and Terrorism Investigation (DIICOT) maintains that the former prosecutor Ciprian Nastasiu’s disclosures can influence the ongoing criminal investigations.

“We stress that from the information made public, referring to organized criminal cases under DIICOT prosecutors’ jurisdiction, as well as the tendentious presentation of some aspects connected to the real situation, or to the applicable legal provisions can affect the judiciary procedures and create pressure upon the prosecutors in charge with this kind of cases”, DIICOT informs in a release remitted on Monday.

“The disclosure by a former DIICOT prosecutor of some data from the organized criminality files, he claims he instrumented, is so much more serious as it proves an unlawful ignorance of the legal provisions.
We underline that such a behavior is not characteristic to the DIICOT prosecutors, who run their investigating activities of organized crimes cases in line with their prerogatives as conferred by the law, delimiting themselves of any interference and without using the criminal investigations as political instruments or of any other nature”, DIICOT also says in its release.

DIICOT considers that through his statements Nastasiu attempts to cast a shadow upon the criminal investigations carried out by the DIICOT prosecutors and that this Public Ministry’s structure is delimiting itself of any kind of such actions, which infringe the law and professional deontology.

Ciprian Nastasiu presented on Monday, in Bucharest, in a press conference, the book called “Plundering Romania”, co-authored together with the Romanian-American writer Victor Gaetan, where he details President Traian Basescu’s involvement into Omar Hayssam affair.
Nastasiu also refers in the book to the pressures exercised upon him by the current general prosecutor Laura Codruta Kovesi, who allegedly hampered him to interrogate Omar Hays sam in Syria.
