Ponta said that the campaign of the incumbent President accepted in principle such a debate. Presidential candidate of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Crin Antonescu is also likely to attend the debate, and so is candidate Kelemen Hunor of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR).
PSD chief Mircea Geoana, the Senate’s chairman, said on Saturday at the Parliament Palace that he wants a first election debate with Traian Basescu at the Bucharest School of Economics (ASE).
He also said that a second debate on foreign policy and national security themes should be held at the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca and a third one, on social issues, at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi.
