‘We will hold next March in Brussels as a first an event of sheep and goat farmers where the produce of Romanian agriculture will be showcased, particularly cheeses. We are mounting this exhibition because there is a wrong perception over the Romanian agriculture; many times when we would fight for increasing quotas and subsides the people in the EP did not understand what we were asking for the increases,’ Sarbu recently said in Sibiu.
She also said that she invited the Committee on Agriculture to visit Romania next June. ‘The European Commission knows very well the hardships of the Romanian agriculture, but the problem is with the MEPs on the Agriculture Committee. That is why I want to bring them here. Between their agriculture and ours there is a huge difference. They vote but they do not have a clue,’ said Sarbu.
She believes Romania is standing a big chance of entering the EU markets, thanks mainly to its ecological farming. ‘We prepared long time ago to sell the Sibiu cheese in the EU. Two years ago we displayed it in Germany and last year in France, both successfully. In Romania the ones halting the process are veterinarians, who come up with a lot of nonsense. Sheep’s milk cheese is in short supply in the EU and there is a need for it,’ Chairman of the National Trade Union of Romanian Sheep Farmers Andrei Marcel told.
