Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Roberta Anastase, announced that the meeting of the Standing Offices of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate will take place on Wednesday with the goal of discussing about the investiture programme of Liviu Negoita Government.

Anastase stressed that the Parliament was summoned, following a phone call with Chairman of the Senate, Mircea Geoana. ‘I had a telephone conversation with Mr. President Geoana regarding the call of the Standing Offices of the two chambers. As you know, I insisted to hold the Offices’ meeting and to start the procedures for the installation of the new Government, precisely because Romania needs a Government capable to continue negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, therefore to obtain the next tranche,’ said Roberta Anastase.

According to Anastase, Mircea Geoana said he couldn’t participate in the meeting of the joint Offices sooner than Wednesday. Important series of Romanian films to be screened at L’Alternativa Independent Film Festival in Barcelona.

Romanian films will represent one of the most important series to be screened at the L’Alternativa Independent Film Festival in Barcelona, with creations by Romanian directors having been selected in all the four sections of the Festival, the director of the festival Margarita Maguregui said after the inauguration on Sunday of the series ‘Romanian Films Before and After 1989′, a parallel section at the Centre for Contemporary Culture in Barcelona, with Cristian Nemescu’s California dreamin’ (unfinished).

According to the director of the Festival in Barcelona, the organizers considered that ‘there was need to bring before the people in Barcelona a cinema industry only rarely reaching the commercial halls here, but which has interesting things to say, along with a strong creating engagement and explaining the political context too’.
The success of the Romanian cinematography before and after 1989 represented also ‘a very good symbolic reason to mark the 20th anniversary since the fall of the communist regime, which transformed the entire Europe”, the director of ICR (Romanian Cultural Institute) Madrid Horia Barna.

More than that, said Margarita Maguregui, the Romanian presence in Barcelona will represent ‘a series of important cinema productions made both before and after the communism fall,’ which shows that ‘the years of totalitarianism didn’t represent a total break and interruption of creation in general.
The Romanian films enriched the history of cinematography in general for they are such constructions resuming the reality as reference – thus, Romanians are the ones representing their own society,’ said Margarita Maguregui.

“California dreamin’” (unfinished) by Cristian Nemescu, “The Reenactment” by Lucian Pintilie, “The Happiest Girl in the Whole World” by Radu Jude, “Step in Two” by Dan Pita, “The Paper Will be Blue” by Radu Muntean, “Sequences” by Alexandru Tatos and “The Death of Mr Lazarescu” by Cristi Puiu are the seven films representing the cycle of the Romanian film in the parallel section of the L’A lternativa Independent Film Festival in Barcelona, screened over November 15-21.
