The country will likely never be acceptable as an EU member, which is actually not a bad thing if one wishes to hold onto one's national sovereignty. However, it is equally difficult for Chisinau to move towards closer cooperation with Moscow (which would bring considerable benefits in terms of natural resources) due to the understandable desire of the Romanian majority to merge with Romania and the EU.
