“The most important companies in the banking, communications and retail sectors are held by foreign capital. It is very difficult to persuade these companies to list on BVB as long as the parent companies are listed on foreign exchanges and have a secure financial source. We must think about trading these shares other then by listing them on the local market”, said Farmache.
He explained that BVB is ready to accommodate transactions with shares issued by the parent companies on foreign markets and that these companies stock could be traded without passing through a listing process, as it happened with Erste Bank shares, owner of the Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR).
Farmache also said that Dacia shares (held by Renault) or Romcim (owned by Lafarge), very liquid, blue chip shares in the past on the local market, have been unlisted.
“We can bring back these shares on the market in Romania via some simple mechanisms and at small operating costs, to generate liquidity and to develop the offer of products”, BVB President also said.
