President of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Mircea Geoana who visited on Monday the southern city of Slatina on an electoral tour, told his sympathizers present at a meeting that figures regarding the global economic situation are encouraging and that economy is recovering in West-European countries, yet noted that according to the same reports, Romania appears on the last position in a ranking of European Union (EU) countries as regards the chances of fast economic recovery.

“This morning I was looking on some figures referring to the economic situation in Europe and Romania, respectively, and I can break to you the good news. After the crisis onset, the major Western economies Romania also relies on began showing recovery signs. European countries are no longer in recession. This is good news, let’s capitalize on it!

But let me also give you some bad news I learned today: Romania is on the last position by the chances of rapid economic recovery, although last year we were ahead of Bulgaria and Ukraine was in a disastrous situation. Romania is kept back by the political crisis and the political scandal Traian Basescu has turned into state policy,” said the Social Democratic candidate.

Geoana said that the anti-crisis plan of the Boc government is inefficient and promised that, if he is elected President, he will form a strong and competent ruling line-up by Christmas. The PSD candidate for President stressed that maintaining current jobs and creating new ones, as well as building housing for the youth, are his priorities.
