“This is the first hydro-power plant drafted after 1989 (…) It is a flag investment for the power production. The entire chain on Siret river will be finalized and it supposes 135 million euros in investments. Beyond the production of energy it contributes to the attainment of two major objective: flood prevention and help for the irrigation sector”, state caretaker PM Emil Boc at the launch.
As well, he said that “all it meant production, construction materials, drafting is Romanian”. “It means we can perform well, and Hidroelectrica succeeded to value our potential”, continued Boc. This objective drafting and construction had in view the exploitation of Sireťs hydro-energy potential through the construction of two new hydro-power plants – Cosmesti and Movileni.
Movileni hydro-power plant has an installed power of 33.0 MW and is to provide 112.4 GWh power per year. The Siret river development on Cosmesti – Movileni sector was approved through a Government Decision in 1990. ISPH Bucharest is the planner and Hidroconstruction built it.
The equipment is also supplied by Romanian companies – UCM Resita (west) (energy ones) and PROMPT Timisoara (west) (hydro-mechanics). Energomontaj accomplished the assembly work. Hidroelectrica is the national champion of power supply from renewable sources. The policy of launching new production units, new technology installation and modernization of the current ones make from this company the most dynamic contributor to SEN from the prospect of boosting the country’s energy capacity.
