“I will tell you what I would like. I would like a right-wing majority. I have done all experiments during my term in office: both with a right-wing majority and with a mixed majority, consisting of left-wing and right wing majorities. It is clear that the only credible majority, which can introduce reforms in Romania, is a right-wing majority,” said Traian Basescu in the interview posted on the bleen.ro blog.
When asked if there are still bridges connecting the Democratic Liberal Party to the National Liberal Party, the Head of State said he was not involved in such a negotiation, which would rightly devolve on political parties, but remarked that political groups had done all possible experiments in the past five years. “Therefore, all experiments have been done and it is time for a conclusion, and my conclusion is that a right-wing government is necessary and useful to Romania,” said Basescu.
He maintained that he would not opt for the dissolution of Parliament in case the Negoita Government was not approved by Parliament, especially as the early election might not bring about a change, but he would designate a third Premier, who should represent the right wing.
“The correct solution is for us to find the governing formula through negotiations – I am in favour of the right-wing government, for instance – that should not push the country to early elections. Therefore, I shall designate a third Prime Minister if the Negoita Government is rejected … Let me have the right of negotiating. One must discuss with parties. But anyway there will have to be Premier that should represent the right wing,” concluded the Head of State.
