As many as 16,239 Romanian companies filed for voluntary liquidation January through October

As many as 120,509 companies suspended their activity in Romania January through October, 2009, by 1,090 more compared with the same interval a year before, reads a release on Tuesday, November 17, of the National Trade Register (ONRC).

The number of companies that filed for voluntary liquidation January through October, 2009, stood at 16,239, that is a growth by 444 percent on the same interval a year before, where there were registered 1,983 companies having field for voluntary bankruptcy.
The highest growth, by 12,200 percent, was recorded in the administrative and support services sector, followed by the healthcare and social assistance sectors (4,700 percent), the cultural and entertainment sector (3,500 companies), professional, scientific and technical activities (2,000 percent), wholesale and retail trade (1,746 percent), transport and storage (1,520 percent), constructions (1,514 percent) and others.

Compared with the first ten months a year before, when there were recorded 13,295 companies that filed for voluntary bankruptcy nationwide, in the first ten months of the current year there were recorded 35,767 companies that entered voluntary bankruptcy, representing a growth by 169 percent, the ONRC release specified.
There were registered 1,038,221 active companies in Romania on October 31, 188, 782 of which operating in Bucharest, that is 18.2 percent of the total number of companies nationwide.
