‘I am categorically for a bicameral parliament. Things are not going well and the parliament’s institution should be reformed as regards the attributions of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, because that is why people have the impression that MPs do not work. We need twice more time for a law to be adopted by both chambers,’ UDMR candidate told a TV station on Tuesday evening.
Kelemen Hunor proposes in his political programme, that the Senate should be turned into a Chamber of regions in which Romania’s traditional regions should be represented. ‘I am convinced that historical regions have to gain higher power in the Romanian state therefore they should be represented in a Chamber that will have only attributions as regards regional developing, foreign policy, defense policy, national security policy, voting of the budget and the Government’s validation.
The remainder might remain at the Chamber of Deputies,’ said Kelemen Hunor, who added that the number of deputies might be reduced by 10 percent. The UDMR candidate said that the budget of the Presidential Administration is higher that the Senate’s budget. We could save public money also by reducing the number of MPs and by the reorganization of the presidential institution,’ said Kelemen Hunor.
