Chief of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Mircea Geoana, the party’s candidate in the November 22 presidential election, told Realitatea TV commercial channel on Tuesday evening that he does not rule out that Sibiu Mayor Klaus Johannis could be the prime minister to be designated after the election by what he called ‘the natural majority’ based on the current composition of Parliament.

He said Johannis is a poised professional who, had he been accepted to head the Romanian Government, the Romanians would have stood big chances of securing a third disbursement of the standby loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

‘Klaus Johannis would have been done an excellent job because he is a solid and poised professional,’ said Geoana. Yet, he admitted that things could go in another direction, although there are not too many options for a parliamentary majority. Currently there is a possibility of a majority being set up by PSD and the National Liberal Party (PNL), what he called a natural formula, but a more exact decision can only be made after the first round of the presidential election.
