The overall number of companies which run at the end of last year stood at 534,525, with a turnover worth 957.965 billion lei (some 263 billion euros) and the overall number of employees stood at 4.418 million. The biggest share held companies activating in the trade sector (214,138 accounting for 40.1 percent), followed by companies activating in the services sector (199,738, respectively 37.3 percent), industry (61,260, respectively 11.5 percent) and constructions (59,389, respectively 11.1 percent).
Regarding the turnover, the biggest share was held by companies with trade as their main activity (40.5 percent), companies of constructions holding only 9.7 percent.
In turn, in the structure of investments within activity sectors, the trade activity holds the last place with a 16.2 percent share (23.299 billion lei, namely 6.3 billion euros). The first place is held by industry, with 36.9 percent (53.182 billion lei namely 14.45 billion euros), followed by services with 30.1 percent (43.359 billion lei, namely 11.7 billion euros) and by constructions with 16.8 percent (24.191 billion lei, namely 6.57 billion euros).
As for employees, enterprises from the industry held the biggest share as regards the average number of employees (37.2 percent), followed by services (27.2 percent). The average of a company from the industry sector was of 27 employees, whereas in trade it was of some 5 employees. According to figures of the National Statistics Institute, in 2008 the gross added value to the cost factors was obtained in a ratio of 38.4 percent in industry, 12 percent in constructions, 20.2 percent in trade and 29.4 percent in services.
The overall gross added value to the cost factors in the four sectors was of 222.914 billion lei (some 60.5 billion euros). The gross results of the profit reported positive values in all four sectors, the total amounting to 32. 534 billion lei (some 8.84 billion euros).
