Campaign staffs of Traian Basescu and Crin Antonescu agreed on Thursday the presidential candidates participate on Friday in an electoral debate at Parliament Palace organized by the Institute for Public policies and moderated by journalist Robert Turcescu. Mircea Geoana will also join the debate.

Sebastian Lazaroiu, member of Traian Basescu’s campaign staff said the debate is to take place between the three best ranked in election polls: Traian Basescu, Mircea Geoana and Crin Antonescu. ‘The staff of the Social Democrat Party (PSD) did not want to participate in the talks, but I understood from their statements they accept any kind of format.
There’s no official confirmation, there only a statement made by the spokesperson (ed.’s note Victor Ponta) that Mircea Geoana will participate in any kind on debate, therefore they did not come to negotiations,’ said Lazaroiu.

He said that the debate will take place between Traian Basescu and Crin Antonescu, even if Mircea Geoana will not come. Spokesperson for the PSD+PC Alliance (Social Democratic Party +the Conservative Party) Victor Ponta told that Mircea Geoana’s campaign staff no longer negotiates the participation in televised debates. According to him, the PSD+PC candidate, Mircea Geaona, will be present in any TV debate.
