Social Democratic chairman Mircea Geoana is seen getting 27 percent and Liberal leader Crin Antonescu 20 percent of the votes, reveals the survey conducted on Nov. 15-18 that was sent on Thursday.
Trailing behind them is Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu with 6 percent of the votes of 47 percent of the surveyed who said they would go to the ballot box, the candidate of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) Kelemen Hunor with 4 percent, Greater Romania Party (PRM) leader Corneliu Vadim Tudor with 3 percent and New Generation Party (PNG) head George Becali with 2 percent.
In the runoff vote scheduled on Dec. 6, Basescu would win 51 percent of the votes if running against Geoana (49 percent) and 52 percent if running against Antonescu (48 percent). In the runoff, 44 percent of the Romanians said they would cast a ballot.
Should general elections be held next Sunday, 47 percent of the surveyed said they would cast a ballot and of them 37 percent said they would vote for the Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L), 34 percent would vote for the Alliance of Social Democrats and Conservatives, 19 percent for the National Liberal Party, 5 percent for the UDMR, 3 percent for the PRM and 1 percent for the PNG. The survey was conducted on 2,064 persons, with an error of representation of plus or minus 2.2 percent and probability of 0.95.
