Information in English

Romanian President Traian Basescu on Thursday told the public television channel that he would not promulgate the amendments to the law on the organization and functioning of the government, last week adopted by the Parliament, before consulting with the political parties.

The head of the state said that he will proceed ‘according to the national interest’ and he will call the political parties to consultations, in order to be sure they accept the current government’s programme, with the budget being the expression ‘of a government programme assumed by a government having the support of the Parliament’.

Asked when precisely he intends to call the political parties for meeting and when to promulgate the new law, which was adopted so as to allow the government submit the 2010 draft budget to the Parliament for approval, Basescu said that it depended ‘on when Mircea Geoana and Crin Antonescu will find the time to come, for they are too busy with the elections right now’.
