The Romanian General Police Inspectorate (IGPR) and the US Embassy say in a joint press release that discussed by the conference were important issues, including preventing and combating cybercrime in Romania; trends and developments in cybercrime; international cooperation in the area of cybercrime; cybercrime as an international threat against business security; the liability of service providers; child pornography; the latest developments in the area of credit card frauds, as well as the developments in and types of phishing.
The conference is said to have been provided an opportunity to experts to discuss some cases of cybercrime prosecuted by the Romanian Police in cooperation with foreign partners. Giving speeches to the participants were Romania’s Prosecutor General Laura Codruta KovesĘ US ambassador to Bucharest Mark Gitenstein; Romania’s Deputy Police General Inspector Tache Bocaniala and Microsfot Romania Deputy CEO Catalin Tatomir.
Attending the event were specialists from the Organized Crime Department and the Cybercrime Service of the Romanian General Police Inspectorate; the Public Prosecution Ministry; the Justice Ministry; the US Embassy; FBI; the Romanian Intelligence Service; DCPCU of the UK; BKA of Germany; the Italian Police; the Spanish Police; Microsoft; CERT USA, RDS; Gecad; Kaspersky; VISA Europe and the Association of Romanian Mobile Operators.
Since its inception as a specialist body in 2003, the Cybercrime Service of the Organized Crime Department of the Romanian General Police Inspectorate has benefited from constant support from the US Embassy under training and technical assistance programs, which total budget exceeded $1 million. As part of this initiative, the assistance provided to the Romanian Police by the US Department of State in 2009 alone comprised four specialist courses and equipment donations worth more than $120,000.
