The Seabees Detachment carried out the rebuilding works at the kindergarten, including the replacement of doors in the whole building, at its own expense.
The U.S. Ambassador underlined the ‘importance of the Mihail Kogalniceanu military base for both the U.S and Romania’, also adding that the U.S. soldiers wanted to help the people and the local communities.
The U.S. Ambassador to Romania said he had family roots on behalf of his father in Romania, in Braila (eastern), and in Chisinau too (the Republic of Moldova).
Also attending the inauguration, the Navodari City Mayor Nicolae Matei explained that this was in fact the second project carried out by the U.S. militaries in Navodari, with the first having been the rebuilding on the inside of a crčche in 2008.
In the latest two years, the militaries from the Seabees base completed 15 civic-humanitarian projects in the Constanta and Tulcea counties (southeastern Romania). The projects were financed via a programme of the U.S. Defence Department, the Humanitarian Assistance Programme of the U.S. European Command (EUCOM) and coordinated by the Romanian-American Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC).
