She says that 8,756 people deprived of freedom voted at 42 penitentiaries, while 1,473 inmates opted in written declarations not to exercise their election rights. Popescu says that the ballot continues at the Bucharest Rahova Penitentiary, where the process is hard to carry out because of the electoral procedures, with a large share of the time having been earmarked for filling in the special lists with the identification data of the inmates.
Popescu also says that the vote at penitentiaries was carried out under peaceful and secure conditions, without incidents, and electoral observers as well as accredited journalists could witness the conduct of the process.
