23 noiembrie 2009

Information in English

The turnout at noon of Romanian voters of Belgium in today’s presidential election and national referendum was higher than in the European election of June 7 and exceeded the total turnout in the Romanian presidential election of 2004.

Nearly 200 people were expecting to cast their ballots at two polling centres set up at the Romanian Embassy in Brussels around noon. Many of them said they intended to vote both in the presidential election and the referendum. By the close time at these two polling centres and two more – one each in Antwerp and Liege – the number of Romanian nationals showing up to vote could exceed 2,000.

According to data with the Foreigners Office of Belgium, there were 16,637 Romanian nationals registered with the office in 2008, most of them in Brussels. All the four polling sections stay open throughout 21:00 hrs, local.
