The Social Democratic Party (PSD) National Council’s president Adrian Nastase said before the sitting of the Party’s National Standing Bureau on Monday that the Social Democrats want the votes of the Liberals and of the other candidates to go to Mircea Geoana.

‘It is important we could see to which extent our ideas can convince the others as well. Surely, we want the votes of the Liberals and of the other candidates to go to M ircea Geoana. This is the reason why we need solutions, which I am confident we will find. PSD wants to come back to normality and a political life without tensions,’ said Nastase.

As for the referendum for the unicameral Parliament Nastase believes it was a ‘private’ one, of Traian Basescu, whereby he wanted to see what the population think about a topic he proposed. PSD honorary president Ion I liescu, in his turn, said that the negotiations on the second round of the presidential elections should be held with the National Liberal Party (PNL), above all.

PSD election campaign’s spokesman Victor Ponta said he had no idea what the Liberals would say about supporting Geoana and stressed he believes PNL leader Crin Antonescu and the Liberals “that they no longer want Basescu.”
