As a main strategy Ion Iliescu considers that the other political forces should go on uniting and decide whom to give their support to.
“Now it is one on one, therefore all the other forces must decide whom to give their support to and now this is the big test for this country’s citizens on what formula we should adopt: shall we go on with a man like Traian Basescu, who seriously damaged our domestic life, or with a man who proves a different capability of understanding things and making sure that our country will go back to normal?” said the PSD honorary chairman.
Traian Basescu, a candidate supported by the Democratic Liberal Party, and Mircea Geoana, the candidate of the P SD-PC Alliance, will compete in the second round of voting on December 6, according to the exit polls published on Sunday when the polling stations were closing. The exit poll conducted by the National Institute for Opinion Studies and Marketing (INSOMAR), which was broadcast by Realitatea TV, reveals 32.8 percent for Traian Basescu and 31.7 percent for Mircea Geoana.
According to the Company of Sociological Research and Branding (CCSB), which conducted an exit poll broadcast by Antena 3 TV station, Traian Basescu got 34.1 percent whereas Mircea Geoana got 30.9 percent.
