Romanian president Traian Basescu, running for the second term in office as president with endorsement of the Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L) on Tuesday stated that the constitutional review committee should be set up immediately after the announcement of the official results of the referendum on cutting Parliament to one chamber and reducing the number of lawmakers.
‘I believe that, as a sign of respect for the citizens, we should set up the constitutional review committee as soon as the official results of the referendum are announced, before the 2nd round of the presidential elections. We should be organizing this committee right now’, Basescu told a press conference at his campaign office.
He also added that politicians would not dare to ignore a referendum.
‘They will be soon be face to face with the electors and I’m afraid they could pay a too expensive bill. Thus, they are now in the situation to do what is against their will, as the people force them. With me, they didn’t want to get alone, now they have no other choice’, Traian Basescu said.
