In September 2009 compared with August 2009, new orders for capital goods grew by 3.7 percent in the euro area and by 2.8 percent in the EU27. Non-durable consumer goods rose by 1.5 percent and 2.0 percent respectively. Durable consumer goods increased by 1.5 percent in the euro area and by 1.8 percent in the EU27. Intermediate goods fell by 2.1 percent and 0.2 percent respectively.
Among the member states for which data are available, total manufacturing working on orders rose in thirteen and fell in eight. The highest increases were registered in Denmark (+43.0 percent), Ireland (+19.7 percent) and Poland (+9.7 percent), and the largest decreases in Estonia (-5.0 percent), Portugal (-4.9 percent) and Lithuania (-4.4 percent). In Romania, industrial new orders went up 0.8 percent in September 2009 compared with the month before, after a 0.8-percent decline in August from the month before.
Data with the National Statistics Institute (INS) indicate that industrial new orders in Romania advanced 31.2 percent in September 2009 from the month before, but declined 19.3 percent from September 2008.
Industrial new orders January 1 – October 30, 2009 compared with the similar period of the year before declined 20.6 percent overall, with all the industrial sectors having reported declines. Orders for intermediary goods plummeted 39.2 percent. The decline was 19.2 percent in the orders for durable goods and 11.6 percent in the orders for non-durable goods. New orders for capital goods recorded the slightest decline, of 1.7 percent.
