President Traian Basescu suggests his counter-candidate, the leader of the Social democrats, Mircea Geoana, should accept at least three debates next week, reads a release sent on Wednesday by Sever Voinescu, spokesman for the independent candidate for the presidential election that is supported by the Democratic Liberal Party.
“President Traian Basescu has repeatedly said that he wanted several debates together with his counter-candidate as this was the only way for the Romanians to be able to vote fully aware of the state of affairs on December 6.
Therefore, Mr Traian Basescu suggests his counter-candidate, Mr Mircea Geoana, should accept at least three debates next week, every one of them being concentrated on various subjects of much interest for present-day Romania,” reads the above-mentioned release. Sever Voinescu also makes it clear that Traian Basescu has been extended several invitations to participate in debates together with his counter-candidate with a view to the second round of voting of this year’s presidential election.
