Social Democratic Party (PSD) President Mircea Geoana said in the beginning of the meeting on Wednesday with the officials of five trade unions confederations, namely BNS, Cartel Alfa, CNSLR Fratia, CSDR and Meridian, that the meeting is strategic for the new balance Romania needs after Dec 6.

‘I see the meeting as a strategic one, from the viewpoint of a new balance Romania has to find after December 6, where the previous social dialogue in the field of adopting the decisions on the public policies in Romania should become a rule, not an exception.

I want to end for good the so- called social dialogue, before big decisions are made in this country and I want to stop the shallow and the arrogant manner the state-run institutions related themselves with the social partners,’ the PSD official said.

In his opinion, the rights of the employees in the area not covered by the trade union movement should become “a topic of preoccupation” and concern for the trade unions officials and the Romanian state.
‘For twenty years, we have built a capitalism with English-Saxon segments and German tendencies in the social area. I believe it is high time for coherence and balance in the Romanian society,’ Geoana stressed. He added he strongly believes the time has come for the Romanians to conceive a social pattern by their “own minds”.
