Henri Coanda International Airport to reach an annual capacity of 6 million passengers in December 2010

The Henri Coanda International Airport based in Otopeni, close to Bucharest, will have the capacity to handle about 6 million passengers in December 2010, when the works at the new terminal with 24 gates are completed, Minister of Transportation Radu Berceanu said on Wednesday.

‘The construction works have already begun a few months ago, following the new terminal to be inaugurated in December next year, with the airport’s capacity to increase from a present figure of 4.5 million up to 6 million passenger annually’, Berceanu said.
The Airport Chairman Tudor Jidav said that the capacity of 1,100 passengers per hour would increase too up to 2,250. He also specified the construction works at the new terminal will cost 150 million euros without VAT, with the money to come from airport’s own funds.

Besides the terminal, there will also be expanded the international and Schengen departures hall, to be finished in November 20111, following that in 2012 to be expanded the international and Schengen arrivals hall. Moreover, there will be built a parking lot of 459 places to cover 12,000 sq m.
