He asked Transport Minister Radu Berceanu to confirm whether or not the 42-km-long portion of the Transilvania motorway between the central towns of Brasov and Bors, the beltway around the southern city of Ploiesti and the Baneasa flyover in Bucharest City will be completed on schedule.
Asked about what happened to the 42-km portion of the motorway, given that the December deadline is nearing in, Berceanu said works on it will be completed on schedule as established earlier in the year.
The conversation occurred after the Government approved an amendment concluded between the Romanian Government, the European Investment Bank and the Romanian National Motorways and National Roads Corporation agreed in a letter signed in Luxembourg on March 12, 2009 and in Bucharest on April 15, 2009, to a funding agreement between the European Investment Bank and the Romanian National Motorways and National Roads Corporation for funding the construction works on the Arad-Timisoara-Lugoj motorway.
‘This is a project worth 200 million euros aimed at funding the construction of the Arad¬Timisoara-Lugoj motorway. It is a two-stage project. So far, 12 million euros has been drawn from the loan. The new amendment extends from November 30, 2008 to February 15, 2010 the draw deadline, after which any part of the loan not drawn between March 31, 2009 and June 15, 2010 can be cancelled,’ Finance Minister Gheorghe Pogea explained.
Berceanu said the largest share of the money will be used to finance the next portion of the motorway, from Timisoara to Lugoj. ‘Part of the money is being used for the portion around Arad and the largest share of it for funding the Timisoara-Arad portion. We are now working on the area that included the beltway around Arad and the portion from Arad to Timisoara. Next portion will be from Timisoara to Lugoj,’ said Berceanu.
