He stressed he was ready to even hold a debate with Sorin Ovidiu Vantu, Dan Voiculescu and Dinu Patriciu, so that the voters may learn what his vision and the three businessmen’s vision of Romania’s future is.
Basescu, who seeks a fresh five-year term in the Dec. 6 runoff against Geoana, recalled that at the debate with the top three presidential candidates in the first round of voting, the Social Democrat leader had denied he had had a meeting with Vantu.
‘This man (Geoana – editor’s note) must begin the campaign for the second round of the elections by apologizing he had lied in the electoral campaign, in prime time. Millions of Romanians heard him say it was not true, that he didn’t meet Vantu.
And last night, Vantu himself said he had called him to the (Danube) Delta, that they had met. I don’t think that a man who thinks he can lie to the Romanians in such an outrageous manner can be president. Anyway, he can run, but he must begin by apologizing’, the incumbent head of state stressed. Basescu made the remarks before taking part in the meeting of the PD-L Steering College. The party backs him for a fresh term.
