When you are ahead, your starting position is “unquestionably” better, stated President Traian Basescu on Thursday, at the meeting of the National Steering College of the Democrat Liberal Party, reunited to discuss the strategy for the presidential elections runoff.

Basescu told the democrat liberals they have the population as their allies and they must fight the politicians who are nonetheless “controlled by moguls, by interest groups”. “We do not fight politicians alone, but their financial and media forces”, he added.
President Traian Basescu voiced regrets that he failed to introduce amid the questions for the Nov.22 referendum one regarding the elimination of immunities for the parliamentarians, ministers and the head of state.

“I confess that I terribly regret not introducing a third question, as well, the elimination of immunities for ministers, MPs and the president. But, maybe, it can be obtained during the negotiations for the Constitution’s revision.
In case I see the the majority of politicians not wanting the elimination of immunities, I will organize another referendum. Let Romanians pronounce if they want the politicians having immunity, or not. And I think that Romanians do not want that”, said Traian Basescu.
