‘We saw the candidate coming second after the first round of the presidential elections was very close to the first candidate, only one percent behind. So I believe we are both starting from zero in the runoff, and we will see who will arrive first at the finish line’, Traian Basescu told Radio Romania Actualitati.
Asked about his percentage after the first round, when he came out first, followed by Mircea Geoana, he said he was pleased with the result compared with the one back in the 2004 elections.
‘I think this was a very good result compared with the one back in 2004. Back then, I was representing a political alliance (the D.A. Alliance) and I won 33.9 percent. Now, there was no alliance behind me and I got 32.4 percent, which shows an increase in my potential to get the votes, after a very difficult tenure too’, Basescu said.
