Chief of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Mircea Geoana believes that the nomination of Dacian Ciolos to become European commissioner for agriculture and rural development is good news for Romania.

Geoana made the statement on Friday evening at the end of a nearly 4,000-people election rally in the central city of Brasov. Addressing the crowd at the Brasov rally besides the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party + Conservative Party (PSD+PC) Alliance, Mircea Geoana, were also chief of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Crin Antonescu and other leaders of the two parties.

President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso on Friday said that former Romanian Agriculture Minister Dacian Ciolos, whom he nominated for the office of European commissioner of agriculture and rural development, is by far the most competent candidate for the office on a list of commissioners designated by the 27 members states of the European Union.
Ciolos would manage one of the largest portfolios in the European Commission for which nearly 50 billion euros under the 2010 European Budget has been earmarked, almost one third of the total budget.
