Loading ...Presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Mircea Geoana on Friday said that him being endorsed by PSD, the National Liberal Party (PNL) and the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) is a historic moment in the history of Romania’s democracy.
‘We are making history today in Oradea. We are witnessing a moment of historic and symbolic importance to the Romanian democracy. I would call what is happening here in Romania the constitution of an alliance for democracy and normalcy,’ Geoana told a joint news conference on Friday with officials of PNL and UDMR.
He added that his ambition as Romania’s future president will be to make so that for the first time in Romania a government coalition will function well, for which he, PNL chief Crin Antonescu and future prime minister Klaus Johhanis are vouchsafing.
Both at the news conference and at the electoral rally in the western city of Oradea, Geoana underscored that he will be the president of all Romanians, ‘irrespective of whether they are Hungarians, Germans or Roma,’ and irrespective of for whom they have voted, giving assurances that the public money to be earmarked to localities, counties and regions will not be allocated along partisan lines.
Geoana and the other speakers argued that normalcy should resume in the country and the crises that have seized Romania should stop, vowing to conjugate ‘social justice and economic dynamism’ if they win the election, pledging to make the Social-Democratic and the Liberal doctrines compatible.
