A number of 4103 construction permits for residential buildings were issued in October 2009, down 13.1 percent from September 2009 (when 4724 construction permits for residential buildings were issued) and 27.7 percent from October 2008 (when 5677 construction permits for residential buildings were issued).
The downward trend remains pronounced and, when examining a longer reference period, the conclusion is that the real estate market still has a difficult period ahead. In the first ten months of 2009 a number of 41861 construction permits for residential buildings were issued, a decline by 21.2 percent from the corresponding period of the previous year.
The highest number of construction permits for residential buildings were issued in rural zones, respectively 2753 in October 2009, from 3496 in October 2008. In the urban zones, in the same period 1350 construction permits were issued from 2181 in October 2008.
We remind that the volume of construction works was down 1.1 percent both in the European Union and in the euro zone in September 2009 compared to August, but in Romania the construction works volume recorded a 2 percent rise, only the Czech Republic posting a higher rate (2.4 percent), according to the data released by the European Statistics Office (Eurostat).
